Let it Burn

All of it. It needs to.

On the Dixie National Forest in Southern Utah.

I've heard from too many people this week who have some sort of connection to this place - hiked, lived, worked, etc.

I say we need a new plan, we'll call it the Dixie-claration of Independence:

Let the Dixie N.F. burn. Don't pay firefighters one cent to stop it. Protect houses and private property. But let the rest just rip. Heck, I'll even come out of retirement to man a drip torch or two to help it along.

(Just kidding....somewhat...)

Never Knew You, Still I Miss You

Madam Marie died this past week. She was an icon of the Jersey Shore, and though I was never brave enough to stop by her little hut on the boardwalk, she holds a special place in my mind. She was the epitome of Asbury Park, and in many ways the Jersey Shore. A recipe of fun, mystery, cheesiness, and history. She's a memory of what's right and good about New Jersey.

(Her shack is barely visible in this photo - hidden by the buildings on the right, and obscured by the fog. If you imagine hard enough, you can see it.)
