Hoof Hand
Somewhere in Southern Utah...
There was a time in my life when the hot days of June would be spent in the deserts of the Southwest, chasing grass and sage fires followed by long mop up shifts with my crew. As the summer moved on, the deserts would give way to the timber and the mountains, and soon the leaves would be changing, my body would be tired, and everyone was thinking about never doing the job next year.
I guess I'm getting to the point where those days are "long past" and I doubt I'll ever see them again. Someone saw my beltbuckle the other day and said "they could use you in Arizona."
Part of me was thankful I wasn't in Arizona.
Another part of me would trade everything in the world to be there once again.
